Cheddar, Milk, and Eggs Prices Soar Above UK Inflation Rate

FT’s analysis of UK official data shows the cost of staple foods has risen above headline inflation rates. In just a year, the price of a cheese salad sandwich has increased by more than a third. The Office for National Statistics’ shopping prices comparison tool highlighted the soaring costs of basic items, including sliced white bread (up 29%) and cheddar cheese (up 42%). Salad fillings such as cucumber and lettuce saw prices increase by 55% and 39%, respectively. Tomatoes were up 16%, and butter rose by 30%.
