UK fraud cases decreased by 4% to 3 million in 2022, with fraud losses falling 8% to £1.2 billion. Unauthorised fraud losses on remote banking, cheques, and payment cards decreased slightly to £726.9m. Remote purchase fraud remained the highest category, with losses of £395.7m, followed by lost/stolen cards at £100.2m and card ID theft at £51.7m. Victims of unauthorised fraud cases are protected by law.
