Hyundai and Kia settle $200M in class-action lawsuit linked to TikTok car theft challenge. The viral “Kia Challenge” resulted in nationwide thefts, crashes, and fatalities. Thieves, known as “the Kia Boyz,” shared instructional videos on TikTok and YouTube, exploiting security vulnerabilities in Hyundai and Kia vehicles manufactured between 2015-2019. These models lacked electronic immobilizers present in competitors’ vehicles, making them easier to break into and bypass ignition. The settlement aims to address the consequences of this concerning trend.
